David Dunn Statement on New Texas Senate Education Chair

(Austin, Texas) TCSA Executive Director David Dunn issued the following statement regarding Lt. Governor David Dewhurst’s announcement today of new appointments for Senate committee chairs, including Senator Dan Patrick (R-Houston) as chair of the Senate committee on education.

“We were heartened to see Sen. Patrick announced as the new chairman of the Senate Education Committee,” said David Dunn, executive director of the Texas Charter Schools Association. “Dan Patrick has been a champion for parents and students for years, and Texas charter schools can look forward to a busy, productive session with continued strong Senate education leadership in place.”

Excerpt from Lt. Governor Dewhurst’s release: Senator Dan Patrick (R-Houston) has been appointed as Chair of the Senate Committee on Education, due to his strong interest in improving public education for children, instituting innovative change and providing for more school choice by parents. Senator Patrick succeeds Senator Florence Shapiro (R-Plano) who announced her retirement from the Texas Senate in September 2011.
