“I commend the students of Uplift Hampton Preparatory charter school for taking the high road and exhibiting maturity when confronted with taunts and verbal attacks. Texas Charter Schools Association fully supports Uplift and their efforts to help prepare students to attend college.
In general, students attending charter schools are economically disadvantaged and many are either Hispanic or African-American. A campus tour is often the first encounter a charter school student has with a college and it is my hope that this will not discourage students from Uplift in pursuing a postsecondary education.
I would also like to acknowledge Texas A&M University for their immediate response to this matter. TCSA looks forward to reading the findings and recommendation from their investigation.”
