“On behalf of the Texas Charter Schools Association, I commend the State Board of Education for taking steps to help charter schools meet the demand from Texan families for seats in the classroom.
Earlier today, the SBOE unanimously voted to expand the capacity of the Permanent School Fund’s Charter School Bond Guarantee Program by increasing the multiplier for public schools in March 2017 to 3.5 and again in September 2017 to 3.75 . This results in charter schools having access to $500 million over the next year to use towards school buildings since they receive $0 in direct facilities support from the state. We hope to see this move some of the 130,000 students from the waiting list to a school that best meets their needs.”
